Soccer players would be the best distance runners, and NFL players would be the best sprinters
Soccer players ,on avg ,cover 7-9 miles per game, and they play about 2 games per week. Now, if you add in the miles that they cover during training per week, they are probably running about 30-40 miles per week. They would destroy athletes from other contact sports from the mile on up.

NFL players are constantly working on short speed workouts, being able to take off with great velocity from their starting point. However, they are not constantly in motion like soccer players, because they are not constantly on the field, so they
cover about 1 mile per game. I would imagine that their weekly mileage, including training, is about 10 miles per week.

NBA players do about 2 miles per game, and just like football players, they have to have great short bursts of speed. They are more on the sprinting end of the spectrum, but they wouldn't be able to compete against NFL players in the sprints, or compete against soccer players in distance running. Plus their platform of play is very short, so they are not out in the open on grass like football and soccer players, so there will not be a lot of training runs.

Maybe NBA players would make for great 800m runners, because of their tall, toned bodies? Not bulky like a football player ( sprinter type), but not lean and non-muscular like a soccer player( distance type).
