RE: Historic Hayward Field may soon be a thing of the past - Demolition of East Grandstands may have already begun
Here's what I posted on another thread plus some:

Why is LRC calling the latest addition of the Pre Classic the last meet at the original Hayward field?

The facility will be 100 years old next year. In that time it has gone through numerous transformations, such as; new all weather surface, conversation of yards to metric, expansion to 8 lanes, change of start/finish lines, construction of West and then East grandstands, etc., etc. The Prefontaine Classic was originally called the Hayward Field Restoration Meet which replaced the deteriorating West stands.

Suffice it to say that the only people referring to and/or lamenting the coming changes are horribly myopic.

Where were all the WGS proponents when they replaced the West Grand Stands? Where were all the purists when they converted to meters or changed the start/finish line?

All this modern day East Grand Stand bunk is ridiculous. Hopefully Knight stays the course, ignores the EGS and plows forward. Either that or take back his money and watch Eugene drift off into oblivion like the late 80's and 90's.
