It's really very easy. Anyone, even people who are sceptical about the whole crypto world, would be wise just to hedge their (overall) investments:

(1) Take 2-10 % of your overall investment money (depending on your risk aversion).

(2) Diversify a bit. Pick a few coins. At least four, max ten. If you think the space is interesting, do more research. If not, pick some top 10 coins, some top 50, one top 100 randomly.

(3) Hold and look at it again in a year.

My portfolio is about 10 % BTC, 30 % ETH, 20 % REP, 5 % GNO, 10 % XMR, 10 % XRP, 10 % XLM, 5 % VTC. But all personal recommendations can just be a starting point. Either chose coins randomly or do your own research.
