Body: It's pretty AMAZING how IGNORANT some of you are. First, the Mt Washington race is not even close to a "trail" race. It's run on the roads and you only go up. Every runner has strengths and weaknesses and the type of course often dictates how well they will do. For example, a runner can easily beat another on an uphill road race, but may not be able to stay close on a course with huge, steep, technical downhills. Other runners may be able to annihilate a runner on a flat marathon, but may have no chance on an uphill race. How is this any different than a 400 guy having no chance in a 10k?
