You are reporting the following post to the moderators for review and possible removal from the forum Poster: Precious Roy Subject: RE: Why do most doctors (including "sports medicine" ones) hate running and think 30mpw is the max amount you should Body: I once had an ortho tell me I should ride a bike instead of running when I came in for a stress fracture. I asked him whether he was serious. He sort of backed off, but did say that he sees lots of running injuries with all the people who are trying to run marathons these days. I pressed him on whether he had any serious runners as patients. He admitted that my measley 2:4- marathoning was way faster than anyone else he had treated. The problem with sports med guys is that they do not see serious runners. They see a lot of people who are just trying to get through a marathon who get all kinds of injuries because they do not have the mileage base and training needed to handle the mileage. These people go from a comfortable routine of 20-30 mpw to 40-50 and get hurt. So, sports med guys think that higher mileage is bad because they associate it with injury. To the sports med guys, if these people would just stick to 30 mpw, they would be fine. So, when serious runners come in and say they are doing 70-90 mpw in their marathon build up, the sports med guys freak out. Hit the submit button below if you want us to review the post.
