1) it might not be a safe place to stop. 2) The folks who came along after might just have seen the cyclists with their bikes and not thought that anyone had been hit. Cyclists do crash or have a mechanical. 3) People rarely will help. Tons of social psych studies on this topic. A few decades ago a woman in NYC was raped in a courtyard.
