Subject: RE: Just sold my car for over KBB and feel bad about it
Well, tongue-in-cheek board posting aside, I did contemplate this option briefly. But I don't know if this guy decided to race his buddies in the car or what. Doesn't really make sense to me that the transmission would tank so soon. I took good care of the car, but it is still 15yrs old and I drove it everywhere. The buyer is a young guy and is using the car for work so I am willing to help, even though I feel no responsibility for the transmission failure. Sure I could have said, tough $hit, kid, you are on your own. Honestly, may be my paternal instincts kicking in. (Yeah, I have two kids that I gush over.)
I don't really believe in karma, but believe in "doing the right thing" whatever that might mean. Here, my take is offer the kid a couple hundred bucks because I know he is strapped, paid directly to the shop that does the repair. Would you have acted differently?
Given the immediate response I got on craigslist, I think kbb is off on this one.
If I felt like I was responsible for the transmission or knew about it beforehand, I would have disclosed or fixed it prior to sale.
