It makes a difference because his father has shielded him from legal problems he would have otherwise had from previous run-ins with the law, including violently resisting arrest. He could not do this were he not among the chosen people. That's the way things are in the USA in 2012 If it made no difference, then the mainstream media would mention the fact; instead they go on about his mom being hispanic/peruvian and, when it comes to his Dad, saying only he is white.
