It hurts deeply. I guess I'm just wondering how he could be so cruel - so hurtful. What did I ever do to you, Alberto? I never called you a Mexican. I never called you a cheat. I read and enjoyed "Duel in the Sun" and "The Men of Oregon." I never insulted you for what ended up being an absolutely 1-dimensional, pathetic obsession with running that drove you into a deep depression, where drugs were the only answer. I never insulted you for never being able to find any refuge of life or worthiness outside of the relatively silly sport of foot-racing. Yes, I will now choose not to buy your book. It's not because you have nothing worthwhile to say (though you don't), having never done anything of real impact or truly pushed humanity forward - to become more human.
