Body: An MSPH is absolutely in no way equal to a PhD in Public Health. There are 3 main degrees you can get. A Master of Public Health (MPH), a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH), and a PhD in Public Health or DrPH. The MPH is generally obtained while in Med School along with getting your MD/DO. The MSPH is more research based and is generally a stand alone degree. The DrPH is usually something that either public health professionals have, though academics or physicians may as well. What probably happened in the case of your friend is that his med school didn't offer an MPH so he got an MSPH instead. DOs are real doctors who go to med school and can do everything that MDs can.
