Subject: RE: Being the slowest runner on your team... anyone have any stories?
Body:

I was the slowest on my D1 team.
I called myself the wolf because anyone I was ahead of in workouts was sick or injured.

If I consistently beat them they dropped off the team.

When I ran repeats the caoch called out splits but not mine, he turned his back before I crossed the line.

I would argue that on your off days you run more miles than your competitors, but at an easy pace.

Also if you are racing your workouts you will get injured.

I only ran for two years, the third year I had lost too much ground.

I spent 4 months backpacking 25 miles a day in between sophmore and junior year.

However I went on to have a long career while most of the guys i ran with quit immediately upon graduating.
