Body: I don't have any science-based reply, merely anecdotal and personal from more than 30 years of racing. I think it's good to be and feel "wiry-strong" when you have a high level of running fitness, which pushups will promote without giving you any extra bulk. I think incorporating some push-ups into your long-term regimen will leave you with less upper-body fatique when you are really pushing hard at the end of a 5K. Your arm swing may also feel a little faster. I would give the push-ups a try. I find the easiest time to do them is after the cool down from a run.
