she would have said if she had run prior to the 6x8 work. These are 800s not mile repeats. I don't understand the purpose of doing such short work over 5 mile race pace. This would be like training for the 1500m by doing 150m repeats slower than 1500m race pace. 800m are short when you are training for an 8k. However, I assume she is doing this work at least with a day of easy running between it and a tempo run. You are right that the pace could be reasonable if she is doing them back to back (but if that is the case she needs to stop doing that).
