You are reporting the following post to the moderators for review and possible removal from the forum Poster: muddy girl Subject: RE: Masters Weekend Runs and Races Body: Still coming back. 51 miles this week in my 4th week of running since my month long lay-off. I did more grass and trails this week, but mid-run yesterday (on grass) my achilles or soleus started to ache and finished the run on the roads. For today's long run (10.5 miles), I stuck to the roads, and was rewarded when a friend joined me. (She doesn't like the trails or the drive when it's mucky). I got suckered into joining another friend for part of her tempo run Thursday - she swore "it will be easy - like 8 min pace!" I was not convinced that 8 min. pace would be all that easy and I was very reluctant. When she stopped to change into lighter shoes that should have been my cue to run away!! I thought I'd hang in for 3 minutes, but managed to run about 1.5 miles before stopping. I got a quick drink of water and met her for the final 800m of the run. It was painful. When I heard the time, I pointed out that we were running sub-7:20 pace, not 8s. That made me feel a *little* better, but not much since I was rather painful and not very "tempo" like to me. I figure it's going to take me about 4 months of a modest progression before I can be back to where I was. A teammate of mine is injured too, but hers limits her to shorter amounts of running. She's been doing repeats of 3 1/2 min (for 800), with 1 min. recovery and covering around 30 minutes. She sounds discouraged, but when I thought about it, she shouldn't be! She's basically doing intervals of 800m at a pace that is not that far from our 6k xc pace AND she's only taking a minute rest. Yikes! That workout sounds SO hard to me right now! I hope she heals up fast, but in any event, she's going to be faster than me right off that bat! Good job everyone - and spikez, you need that rest. AR or not, you know you are pushing the edge and when you do that your likelihood of injury goes up. Track season is the spring/summer and you don't want to miss that! Be good!
