You are reporting the following post to the moderators for review and possible removal from the forum Poster: Another rant from Codger Subject: I have HAD IT with the NATIONAL ANTHEM at track meets! Body: 1. WTF does the anthem of our country have to do with a *sports contest* in which people jump up and down, throw things around, and run around in circles? Seriously--the NATIONAL ANTHEM for that? 2. If you *must* have the national anthem for a track and field meet, shouldn't it be before the day's competition--the ENTIRE competition--begins? WTH is the deal with interrupting field events *that are already underway* so that the NA can be played before the first running event? What, do field events somehow not count? Meet directors: *Please have the nerve and independence of mind to consider seriously--even with decades of tradition--whether the "Star Spangled Banner" is actually appropriate at a track meet, or any other sporting event. Why should the national anthem of our country be so routinely trivialized? *If you do decide to have the NA at your meet, please treat all competitors equally and play the music before *any* event begins--not just the first track race. Thanks. I feel a little better already. The cold meds seem to be wearing off a bit. Hit the submit button below if you want us to review the post.
