I never ran a flat fast 5k so I am not sure about that -

but

I did run a big 20 second PR on a rolling 10k course I race every year. Even better, I had had problems with the course's hills in past years but this time I got over them with much more dignity.

And I am in mid 40s, running for 30 years, so I think a PR in that race was directly attributable to the Magill plan. Esp the 20 x 400 - that is a great workout. You do that a few times, you think you can do anything.
