Subject: RE: my friend thinks u. bolt could run a sub-4:30 mile
Body:

Bolt would a better chance of breaking 4:30 off of no training whatsoever than off of sprint training. I was in 4:40 mile shape in high school, nothing special, but one year I decided to do purely sprinting for track. It was intense training, we did hard workouts 3-4 times a week, and I FELT like I was in shape. At the end of the season when I started doing distance runs again, my legs started BURNING when I had to go longer than 3 miles. I did a mile time trial to see where I was at, and it felt awful. I ran a 5:20 all out, and it was rough. That was after 2 years of distance training too, but after a few months it was all gone and I felt like crap. I'd gone a few months of no running or WALKING for that matter from injury, when I was in WORSE shape, and still broke 5 minutes. My body changed drastically though from the sprinting training, I couldn't hold a pace.

I realize I'm not a world class athlete like Bolt, but at least I can say from EXPERIENCE, and not just assertions, that the body of a sprinter does NOT like distance running.
