One of the Russians she beat was the WR holder; the other would win the Olympic 1500 meter gold less than 5 months later in Munich. And she also defeated the reigning AR holder in the race, who went under her old record as well. A 4:38 mile on that crappy track is on a par with Lindgren's 8:40, and that time still stands alone 36 years later. Reminds me of Ryun beat Snell.
