I think that everyone's fear originally was that this was a big scam and the money would never be returned. So good for them on that count. However, the site also says they still need "thousands" of volunteers (i.e., ain't gonna happen). And, by pulling the plug on the official event, they avoid having to tell the truth about registration numbers and having to organize an expo.
