Regarding the NYT report that 4000 of 180,000 samples were positive for EPO in 2005, could that really be true? One in forty-five samples positive? That would be incredible. Especially considering that athletes who don't use EPO should account for a disproportionate number of the tests (since dopers stop getting tested after they are banned). That would mean that the ratio of positive athletes is considerably higher than the ratio of positive tests. And the prevailing wisdom is that it's easy to avoid detection?!
