|Subject: ||RE: how to triple|
For whatever reason my coach thinks i need to triple in the 800, 4x8, 1600 or 3200. I've done this before for him but ended up running 10 seconds off my PR in the 800. The 4x8 and 800 are the only events I really can place well in, but he insists i run in the 1600 or 3200. If its not possible to get out of this what are some good ways to get a full recovery for my open 800?
Your coach doesn't make sense... especially since NOBODY is actually receiving a benefit from this.
According to you, you can't actually place well in the 1600m or the 3200m, so whether you run it or not should not affect your team score.
Additionally, anyone who argues that tripling at a meet is actually good for long-term progression has no idea as to what he/she is talking about.
I don't know if your coach thinks he's helping you by doing this, but the bottom line is that he's not. If this is happening at duel meets, then the amount of damage you're taking in the 1600m/3200m will far exceed your recovery ability.
