What does "forego the season" even mean? I'm totally in agreement that it would be best for him to focus on recovering from the injury. But that doesn't mean he can't run at all. He should qualify to enter races based on his recent past performances. So why not enter the trials or fall races just to get the juices flowing, even if he gets his ass kicked.
And remember, he has already foregone all of last fall and the spring. By the the Prefontaine meet it will have been about 10 months since he raced. He's already done a hell of a lot of foregoing.
If Solinsky is interested in long-term longevity and reaching peak potential, he should forego this season. Who cares that it's an Olympic season? He can't medal at this point and probably wouldn't even make the final, even if he did manage to sneak on the team. And he will be pushing the envelope just to do that. He needs to let the thing heal properly and look to avoid the injury cycle. My bet is he won't, unfortunately.
