I'd say maybe after a month or so things started to come pretty naturally. The hardest part is memorizing how many pumps and shots go in what size and whatnot, but as you spend more time making drinks and observing, you start to figure out that you basically have a standard (your regular latte) and it's adjusted as flavors and sizes are added in. Once you get your Americanos and Caramel Macchiattos down, you can pretty much make anything. There aren't too many drinks that vary.
They won't throw you to the wolves instantly either. You actually read a lot of study materials before you get going, so you'll have it all in theory and then keep adding practice as you gain more read knowledge.
