It's true, a lot of people are dependent upon the government and schools, but parents? No way. Compared to other cultures around the world, and even our own culture a few generations ago, kids in America today are very independent.
If you are trying to use this to explain why many of my friends in their 20's do not have career-type jobs, then you are an idiot.
More financially independent? I doubt it. I suspect the rate of people depending on their parents for financial support well into their 20's has probably gone way up in the last couple of generations.
