|Subject: ||RE: Athletics Kenya ABORTS 2012 trials in USA. To hold only the men's 10000m olympics trials in the USA.|
For one thing, most countries don't even have a trials.
They select their team by how their athletes perform in world class meets outside of their country.
Ethiopia does this. The Hengelo 10,000 often determined their team, but not explicitly.
Kenya does it with the marathon.
This means that they often select their individuals without direct competition amongst them.
Having Kenya's 10,000m team determined by direct competition in a Grand Prix is a great idea to me.
It certainly beats having them race in seperate meets and selected on time or some undetermined subjective judgement of officials.
And it also means that they don't have to give up a world class meet just to face each other at home in a tactical trials race.
I think the US should look into doing this for their 10,000 team as well in the future.
I'd like to see Rupp, Solinsky and Teg bang it out with the Kenyans at Pre to make the team instead of skipping the meet to focus on the Trials.
