|Subject: ||Shin splints|
I'm running the Boston Marathon and have been battling shin splints for the last month. I've been to a sports massage therapist, consulted doctors. They're pretty positive it's just shin splints since there is no "hot spot" you press and can tell it's a stress fracture. I've been icing, heating before running, and taking advil. The pain can be pretty bad at times. After hard days running, I'm usually stuck on an elliptical because my leg feels like it's going to give out every step. It even hurts when I just start walking before it loosens up a bit.
Needless to say I'm not running as fast as I'd like. I'm trying to get in my 20 milers, tempos, mile repeats and getting on the elliptical on recovery days.
Does anyone have any thing I haven't tried to alleviate the pain or get shin splints to heal quicker? At this point would taking a week off do any good?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
