|Subject: ||RE: Is this the sort of publicity marathons want?|
I know what you're saying, but it seems like most of the big marathons sell out pretty quickly regardless. I have to say I have a soft spot for the woman who actually finished last, and was running for her brother-in-law who has cancer. Great for her. But the thing is, how many other people were doing the same thing yesterday? I would guess at least 25%, all of whom showed "grit and determination" as well.
And I have to say that find it very bizarre--and this is coming from someone with a journalism degree--that most people want to read stories about folks with whom they share "common ground." What's the point in that? I want to read about folks with whom I share no common ground. Show me something new and different, right? Why do I want to read about someone just like me? How boring!
