|Subject: ||RE: At the mercy of what my parents buy, how do i eat healther?|
Unfortunately, this is American culture at its finest. I think it borders on child neglect, if not abuse. Unfortunately, many families have two working adults to keep up with the Joneses, and even if they don't, they are too ignorant or lazy to prepare wholesome food (which actually can be cheaper than eating out or buying processed food if done correctly). I agree with the suggestions, but the parents would probably provide resistance. If the OP can provide videos like "Food, Inc.," or "Food Matters," etc, maybe he or she could enact change.
People talk about change, but I have yet to see it seriously implemented in schools or homes that I'm aware of. This necessarily leads to the "Why are pharmacists paid so much?" thread and the glaring imbalance between what people actually put into Medicare and what they end up taking out. The system has to change and it will. It will be a real eye-opener.
Tony Reavis' coments about stuffed crust pizza versus wholesome food on the front page are spot on.
