supply and demand. 25 years ago a sub 9:00 guy would get a full ride at 98 percent of D1 schools that recruited him. Their were only 3-5 of them out there that ran that for a given year.
A kid that runs 9:05 and then went to a big outdoor national meet and ran 8:54 and placed 5th these days probably gets very few offers over 50 percent.
