No, you see, Egyptians are Egyptians because the country they live in is called Egypt you f***tard! And if you actually new anything about Iran you would realize that many people living in Iran are not Persians. Many are turkman, lurs, kurds and, yes, you jackass, even Arabs. You would also know that the Persians were Zoroastrian and also had a totally different language and culture than the religion, language and culture introduced by Islamic nomads who imported Islam, Farsi, and an entirely different alphabet when they conquered the remains of the Persian empire. Quincidentally this is the language, god(they were actually Sunni, a latter ruler imposed Shi'ism) and customs still in use today. And this was only the first, of many times, what is modern Iran was conquered and controlled by one group or other invariable polluting the gene pool and irreversible changing the culture from that of the "Persians". Before you go off half cocked trying to ridicule somone and pretend you know your dick from a spatula do a little reading and actually know a little bit about what you pretend to know so well. Persia does not equal Iran. No more than the italy of today can claim to be inhabited by Romans. Different culture, different religon, different people, and a bastardized heritage at best. They are Italian, Just like people from scotland are scottish, not celts, or people from france are french and not franks. Need I go on? It was a simple question: Is there a reason that Iranian people have conciously choosen to call themselves Persian, a heritage that is tenuous at best for even the most "persian" amoung them rather than Iranian? Or is it just something without a explicit logic behind it. So dickhead before you pretend to be all knowning and try to make someone look stupid for asking an honest inquisitive question why don't you get your facks straight! Firstly, nice use of the Bold, jackass. People from the United States of America, are called Americans because it is a shortening of the name of our country. I am not sure why the term American was settled on rather than United Statsians, maybe because American was what we called the country and United States is just a discriptor. Like The Peoples republic part the Peoples Republic of China. Or for that matter the Islamic Republic part of Islamic Republic of Iran. You see the begining part just describes the type of government for lack of a better word. A quick google search didn't yield an definitive answer though so I can't be sure. Now I know that it gets a little confusing because both South America and and North America are collectively refered to as the Americas, so if one considers the droppping of the United states part in this light it may seem presumptious but my guess is at the time that term american became popular lexicon we weren't to worried about offending what we considered to be savages and now that we a somewhat more kind and gentle it has kind of stuck. Of course let me remind you that this is just logical reasoning on my part and isn't meant to represent historical fact. I did no real research for this beyond a simple 30 second google search which as I menitoned before was fruitless. So now are you going to answer my innocuous question reasonable are are you going to continue to act like and ass? |

Sick of waiting for an answer from the ranting people on this bored I dug deep into the bowels of google and think I pulled what substitutes for an answer. I a couple of blogs I found people giving the same logic I came up with, that Iranians insist on being called Persian because they don't want to be associated with what many see as crazy regime. Also there was mention of loyalty to the Sha and his son. The was also implicitly supported by a paper I found on iranian.com by Lobat Asadi. In the paper he writes "We have all had to fight along the silk route of the revolution to know who we are, and how we can preserve what's left of being Iranian. For example, some insist it's Persian not Iranian, because it reminds us of a Rostam-inspired dreamy past. Well, unless you were born when it was still Persia, then you are currently Iranian" So there seems to be some discussion inside the Iranian/persian community over what they should call themselves. There was another article on iranian.com fomr a girl detailing an argument over the name change from Persian to Iranian, she was for keeping it Persia and vehemently called herself persian. There was also mention on another blog that some Iranian call themselves Persians to distinguish themselves from the "drity Turks or Arabs." Note this is taken right from blog and doesn't reprsent my view of Persianss, Iranians, Turks or Arabs. but represents a veiw, I guess. So there you have it. An interesting dialog about why people form the area currently called Iran are/should be called Persian or Iranian. If anyone else has something constructive to add I would be really interested in hearing it. Also the the Americans question got me wondering if there is a real history there too. So if anyone has any insight about that coughing it up would also be cool. Hopfully the people who choose to answer that question will do it with a little more knowledge, forethough and civility. |
