anyone know how graff and the boys made out tonight in their attempt to get the "A" standard?

They have no chance. I predict over 28:30 for the boys.
I think everyone dropped out. That's what I heard third hand.
no....every dropped...it's brutal in NY tonite....75F and 75% humidity...it never rained
A typical 10k effort. These guys had a perfect opportunity in Carson. 56 degrees and low humidity. They have no right to expect that again.

I agree. I give the guys credit for giving it a shot but if they were going to do it it was at nationals. Great weather and Abdi and Meb basically serving as rabbits.
mark carroll made it to about 8k and then dropped out. some kenyan finished in 28:25. Andrew Lettherby (sp) earned many fans tonight by sticking it out and finishing despite running most of the race all alone.
Yeah, when I read that they were trying this in NY this week I went 'ugh'. I'm in southern Ontario and the weather this week has been brutal. I've been doing my morning runds early and workouts at 10-12pm, and even then it has been in the 30s (90ish usually) with the humidex. It's absolutely nasty, no weather for a good 10K.
anyone know what time letherby finished in?
Over 29 minutes
What is the big secret? Why don't they post the times? I would like to see who made an attempt. More power to those guys giving it a go.
I was in New York last night and walked about a half-mile and my t-shirt was drenched with sweat. When these guys realized how humid it was, they had to know there was no chance. More power to them for trying.
I totally agree. NOW POST THE RESULTS.

That doesn't even make sense since neither one of them ran the standard at Nationals.

I do give credit. But even in 75F/75% mugginess, 29:00+ type times for aspiring world championship qualifiers has got to be discouraging for them.

Its not like Meb and Abdi were going all out at nationals.
If someone else is with them I think they run faster especially if this person takes the pace just for a lap or two to get it going.
But the weather was perfect at nationals. Its the race everyone supposedly peaking for. If you're not close to getting it there i don't think you'll get it in NY a month later with it a lot hotter.

and they knew that before the race? none of them even went with those guys. clearly weren't in shape then so why would they be now?

Best part of the report:
"With the pacemakers leading the field through opening laps of 66 and 2:12, the standard looked within reach."
actually, graff did go for it nationals from what i saw, right? it is tough to run a time trial with meb and abdi when abdi surges on the straights and slows on the turns. that isnt exactly great rabbitting.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?

Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
