Track & Field is hard work. If you are a distance runner it is even more difficult with cross in the fall, indoor in the winter and a long spring outdoor season. As a walk on, you will be most likely redshirting your freshman year and there is a chance you will never compete in a meaningful meet. So my question is to the college coaches, what % of walk-on athletes last from the freshman year to the end of their senior year on your teams? My guess is it may depend on divisions as a D1 walk on may never contribute where as a D2 or NAIA walk on may eventually contribute due to the team being smaller in size? My guess: D1 less than 5% last all 4 years / D2 and NAIA less than 20% last all 4 years
