Nice Japanese TV show on a 1-week visit the coach made to Japan to coach the kids at a middle school as they prepared for the Tokyo middle-school ekiden championship.
Before he arrived, they'd been following a 2-month training plan he'd written for them. Apparently the paces he prescribed were a bit faster than they were accustomed to.
They only knew that a famous coach was coming to help them. They didn't know who he was, but the kids' regular coach recognized him right away.
Renato gave them some nice tips on the mental aspects of racing and training (e.g. don't look at races as tests but rather as a chance to express the joy you take from running).
He also emphasized forefoot running quite a bit. That's getting a lot of attention in Japan now with Osako's success (Nike's sure getting their money's worth from his contract -- and Renato's).
In the end, Renato and the kids seemed to come away from the experience with a lot of mutual admiration.
Not sure when the show aired, but it was uploaded to YT earlier this month (as you can see).
