I have not been following this perhaps as closely as I should, but it has always been a requirement that to go to the Games it was the top 3 finishers at Trials with the "A" standard and not merely the top 3 finishers.
Yes, the IAAF has tightened the standards, but they tightened them in the past. The US has been exceptional in the distance events recently (more so than in the sprints).
What am I missing?
It also appears USATF was against the IAAF changing the standards but the vote went against it. The call for people to be fired is way over the top unless someone can give me an argument for what the USATF could have done.
