I am 57 and after 41 years of distance running my stride and balance are not what they used to be. With that I have always at least been able to run slow on a treadmill but all of sudden I cannot. I was running 40-50 mpw in the last 3 months of 2018 on treadmill all about 10:30 pace as I am slow sometimes I go even slower to start. I manage to not be able to pick up my feet and fell twice and now I just cannot run on the treadmill. It is if my brain will not allow me to get up on my feet correctly. I cannot overcome this problem.
I can run outside that is not problem but frankly I am not very coordinated and my stride is all over the place but I can run. I have no pain issues. This morning I did 5 miles on the treadmill in 67 mimutes as I can walk 4.6 or even 4.7 mph which is pretty fast walk.. I just cannot seem to get over the process to run. I tried but instantly feel like I am losing coordination. If I hold on I can easily run steady 9 minute miles and up to 6.8 mph but of course I have to bend slightly to do this and hold on. It makes for uncomfortable position but at least this way I can get my heart rate up. Waking it is hard to get my heart rate up past about 110 BPM.
It is not my fitness as such and on the bike I am a killer. I cycle too and can easily cycle with fellows much younger than myself. I just seem to be losing my ability to run properly without feeling off balance. It is not a dizziness issue just completely uncoordinated while running. When I walk I am generally fine. The crazy thing was during the last good times I was running in the treadmill I was actually able to run on the treadmill at about the same seed as my outdoor running pace.
