I can understand this in today's day and age. That said, this goes on at just about every college in america. Heck, back when conover was hired here, he went from having keggers at his house with the kids on the team to being their coach overnight, was talking with an old poly guy a couple months back about how funny it was to hear "ok guys, no drinking" from their coach who they had partied with just a few weeks prior. Not sure that the whole team should be suspended rather than individuals involved but if they're having trouble identifying particular people ont he team and it seemed systemic, I guess this is a good way to get everyone's attention.
Hey, at least everyone will get a great block of training in, haha!
Sounds pretty identical to what happens for a lot of track teams, the difference being they got caught.
Doesnt sound like anything too bad happened.
Just another reminder that the current college environment is very different and not necessarily better than it used to be. Administrators are scared to death of every minor misbehavior by students, and something that might have been handled internally by the coach a couple of decades ago now requires a major public demonstration of discipline. Time to bring back the stocks and public floggings for miscreants?

And a demonstration of compliance/power. Check that little compliance box, write a 'report' after the 'investigation', and like magic... you climb the ladder and get a pay raise.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.
I went to Cal Poly. This could not have happened because it is a dry campus.

I can't believe I just threw up in front of you.
Isn’t this want took Henner out at Georgetown? Is it time for Cal Poly to move on?
Wow! They are "forced" to drink alcohol, unless they don't want to, then they have to do a "dangerous" exercise like push ups.
The horror.
Hey, it's Cal Poly. What would you expect? It's known for being a party school and there have been a number of incidents lately that haven't cast the school in the best light. The Greeks have been a problem along with a couple of recent "blackface" incidents. Perhaps getting rid of the Frats and Sororities would be a good start.

I'm a college coach and I can tell you that these things don't happen on our team. Times have changed, and it takes a more disciplined athlete to have success at the national level now. You either learn to live right, or you are left behind by the competition. When's the last time the Mustangs sent a team to the dance?
I did state "every college," though I certainly insinuated "every college *team*"... fair enough if it doesn't happen at yours, kudos to you. Didn't happen much at mine either, though our school was vying for nat'l titles. I think the problem here was that it seems there was video evidence, so not something that MC could just slap a few hands and wave away, especially if word got out to his superiors (AD, other school admins, etc).
No matter what the facts are, I can't see it as anything other than a positive, in the long term. Certainly sucks for some of the younger crew who may be collateral damage but hopefully it take the entire team and whacks them upside the head so that they toe a straight edge line from here forward.
As long as no rectums were penetrated, it was just the usual college pranks.
Rumors of hospitalization and no one is surprised... it's about time someone actually took action. They sell a totally different team than they actually are to the recruits. Glad future freshman will know what to expect now if they choose to commit to Cal Poly
Sucks for those not involved, but from what I've heard, no one escapes this team's culture unless you quit.
When skinny geeky boys get a taste of a little bit of power...
This is, unfortunately, being blown way out of proportion by the school, I talked to a friend on the team as immediately I was worried after seeing the article. According to them what really happened was it was a typical team college party, unfortunately, someone drank more then they could handle and ended up in the hospital. There they said they were a member of the track team, and apparently, the friend that brought them there said it was hazing. This led to the hospital reporting it to the school and the whole investigation, which most likely came down hard with the issues last year of Frat hazings. My Friend saw no forced drinking, forced exercise, or "sexual scavenger hunt" and has no clue where these details came from.
Wait....kids drink alcohol in college? No way!

HAHA so true.
See, it's illegal for someone under 21 to drink alcohol.
Ticket and fine the minors who drink; arrest and jail the people who supply alcohol to them. Not that complicated.
And yes, I'm completely serious.
