The Jerusalem marathon took place today. First place prize money 3,750$. That’s pretty insulting for a marathon that has about 30,000-40,000 runners in all races, and a city of 600,000 inhabitants. Elite field usually consists of Kenyan runners that come from abroad. Do you think those elites are paid to participate in this marathon? The city pays for their flying ticket? Hotel? Additional money to participate? How much? More than that stingy prize money?
Because If I were an elite runner in their level No way I would come just to compete for 3,750$ with no additional money having to pay for the travel and the staying. And why can’t a city of more than half a million inhabitants can’t offer more than 3,750$ for the winner?
