So I got some blood work done like 7 months ago when I wasn't running (I was cross training though). My ferritin was 68 so pretty high but my hematocrit was 40! I'm not the best with all of this blood test stuff but I don't think a hematocrit of 40 is a good thing... What could high ferritin but low hematocrit mean?
You are definitely anemic. Ferritin doesn't show everything. You probably should get another test soon.
there is no way he is anemic. you can't be anemic if your ferritin is above 20.

A hematocrit of 40 is within the normal range so I agree that he is not anemic however you can have a high serum ferritin level and still be anemic if:
- Your body is being restricted in some way and not able to produce red blood cells
- You have just recently restored your blood serum ferritin levels but your body has not had enough time to recover.
- You have just had an abnormal blood loss event

If I took an iron supplement the night before my blood test would it affect my ferritin levels? Also my hemoglobin was just below the normal range.

40 is normal. If you lined up 10 people, probably 4-5 of them would be at 40 or lower.

Yes, cyclists who were consuming EPO in order to artificially increase their red cells, and thus their hematocrit, were around 50.
I'm not sure how that leads us to 40 being anemic, though.
I was anemic once. My hematocrit was 27....

It shouldn't. Most people are not that efficient at absorption.
