Training for the 800m, and my schedule for next 4-6 weeks looks roughly like this:
Sun- AM circuits/strength/weights/plyos PM 30 minutes easy
Mo- rest
Tue- 40 minutes easy, 6x100m strides (around 600m-800m effort, first few around mile effort)
Wed- longer run (50:00+, going from easy to moderate last few miles)
Thu- AM 30 minutes easy PM plyos/circuits
Friday-
Sat- 30 minutes easy, 6-8x100m strides (400-800m effort, first few mile effort)
I know this is mickey mouse training for most of you but I'm just getting back into running after 5 months and I've lost a SH!T-TON OF FITNESS so I'm being very conservative for now and do plan on raising the mileage. I just have 2 questions:
A) would doing strides at this sort of pace make me peak too early or am I being stupid asking this and there's nothing to worry about? Is this a good training stimulus?
B) After 4 weeks I plan on introducing tempo work and weekly short flat or hill sprints with full recovery for about 6 weeks until I begin specific race pace work and vo2max work. The training block is roughly 16 weeks in total till my race. Is this a good schedule to follow?
Would greatly appreciate any helpful responses and please feel free to critique. Thank you!
PS. if it helps, here's some additional information
25, Male, been running for about 20 months now, last 5 months completely off.
I'm probably in about 6:10 and 2:35ish shape right now (please be gentle with the ridicule lol), before my break I probably could have run 2:22 and 5:35 off around 10-15 mpw but had relatively good speed for 100m-200m (12.7x/26 low)
