Hi All,
I’m a sophomore at a rather small school and I run the 3200, my goal is to run 10:10-10:15. I just can’t seem to take my coach seriously. Over the Winter, I was steady at 50-60 miles and I worked hard. Did many tempos and easy mileage and I’m aerobically fit. (17:24 5k PR from XC)
We had the first day of track on Thursday and we did 4 by 150 meters. On Friday, we ran 100-300-300-400 “accelerations” with equal jog recovery. On Monday, we did 5 by 300 meters off of 5 minutes rest. For context, our first meet is still 3 and a half weeks away. We are regularly doing 1-3 miles at track everyday and it is all pure speed with an absurd amount of rest for this point in the season.
Is my coach wrong to be doing this? She was a sprinter in high school so that might be part of the reason. She gets very very mad if I ever try to question her or try to do extra mileage after practice.
I just feel like this kind of training will make me peak very early and not help me reach my goals, just like what happened with XC.
Any tips/opinions would be appreciated. I try to run before school when I can but I am honestly frustrated at this kind of minimalist training.
