400m: 51 s(plan to drop to sub 50)
500m:1:09.17 s

I had almost the exact same prs going into senior year of track and walked on d3. You don't have a shot at walking on at any but the worst d1 schools, unless you are female.
If you are female, you can probably run at all but the best d1 schools and will probably receive scholarship offers.
If you get your 5k pr down about a minute which seems possible considering that its only your second year, then walking on at d1 is a real possibility but currently i would recommend d3

You're in all of the wrong events. Your best events by far out of the ones you list at the 400m and 500m. That said, they're D3 times through and through.
Walk on D1 in the 400, you'd need to be in the 48s, and you wouldn't travel if that's where you stayed.
The 50th place team indoor this year in D3 4x4 ran 3:19. That’s averaging sub 50 per guy. The top team averaged 48 per guy.

There are some low level d1 schools that he could walk on. There would be no point to doing that, though, unless those schools happen to be the best academic fit for him, or offer him an academic scholarship, or some other factor.
Let's say I cut down my 400 time to a sub 50 and run a sub-2 800, do you think I can go d3 at schools such as Hopkins and Carnegie?

Yes, but only if you are legit academic accept as well. Athletics won't move the needle one bit.
CMU's team looks a little better, both in terms of history and current strength. But they're both good to very good D3 programs.
You have two track seasons and one more xc season to drop your times.
I'm curious what your 3 mile/5K PRs were last XC season? I'm assuming you ran those XC times this past season, and those track times the prior track season? How much improvement did you show? You could end up having a great track season this year, for all we know.
Who knows, your senior track season you might finish with PRs of: 48/1:56/4:20-4:30ish. There is definitely plenty of time for you to train and improve your times.
You could definitely walk on some decent D1 teams with those times.
Come back once this season is over and let us know what you run. I've seen a guy run 18:00 minutes for the 5K and two years later he's running 16:30. That's while missing out one season from a stress fracture. Who's to say your limit/potential?
If you finish this track season with a low 50.xx 400, and a sub 2:02 800 (which I definitely see as possible based on your 400/5k ability), I'd say you're quite possibly in line to have a great senior year, assuming no injury and you continue training.

Yeah you'll be running college track for sure. Did you really run a 51s 400m in your first year of track? That's huge, and suggests more than a 1-2 second improvement over the next two track seasons. Especially since you're probably stronger this year than last, and you'll probably be even better in 1.3 years from now.
In fact, you could go sub-2 in the 800m this year, and sub-49 in the 400 this year, and have some college programs hitting you up this summer.
Congrats man! Please keep us posted in this thread over the course of the track season. Anything fringe 50s and fringe 2:00 will college-bound worthy, but you might really surprise yourself this year.
Stay away from the 1500/mile and 3000/2 mile. Save your energy for the 400m and 800m, or even just 400m and 400 relay.
If you really focused in, you might even end up with a partial scholarship and a 46-47 second 400m high school p.r.
Watch some youtube videos on 400m training and strategy. You should probably be lifting some weights right now.
I think you would have more fun in D3 with a "similar" college experience.
His 5K/3-mile is quite impressive for someone who has possibly only ran for two years, in my opinion. He will only get better. It's too early to make a call what event he should specialize is. He might end up not having enough speed in the 400m (or maybe he does), and eventually need to make the move to the 800/1500 in college.
i ran a 53 in the 400m and a 19:20 in xc in my first year
when I first started track and xc I was really out of shape
At this point I wouldn't run in college.
As a JR I ran 15:56/9:42 and would end up running DI and getting All-America honors before all said and done. You're just not showing enough improvement at this point. I went from 10:19 to 9:49 in one season (FR to SO). You need big gains.
You must be a girl. No guy could go from 9:42 to All American in D1.

I would say keep running XC when off-season and switch over to emphasizing 400m/800m during track season with an occasional 1600m race here and there during the season (to see how you perform in that event). I think your 1600m will be your weakest perfomance from the two, but it's good to start getting some experience and see how much you can improve it in college.
Get some solid training in the summer months, and start dieting. You have a lot of potential and especially can make some good advancement with what you have shown. I wouldn't be surprised if you dipped under 2:00 for the 800m this year (assuming you focus on it).
I'm going to think the 800m will be your best event in high school. Let us know how your season progresses, I think you are actually a strong candidate to get the times you need to walk on D1 teams. If you're sub 50 / 1:57 (and I think you just might have the potential to do this), you have a good shot. Plus, coaches would like that you have shown potential in XC--- in case you need to move up to the 1500. Hopefully you get to the 16:30 range next year.
how much you can improve it in high school*

If this was a female, I'm sure the 51s 400m in high school would pretty much guarantee a full ride to any school and most likely future WC and Oly games.
Your 400 and 500 times are pretty solid. You should break 2 in the 800 this season. If you can bring it down to ~1:56 you will get interest from schools like CMU.
Getting folks into elite schools is difficult enough for coaches. If you have the grades and strong test scores to get in on your own without them having to use a recruit spot you could probably walk on to Hopkins and maybe even some of the Ivies (if you get in).
