McDonald has had some injury problems during his collegiate career, but he's put together a long block of continuous training since the end of the spring and has now won three NCAA titles in four months.
McDonald believes that one of the reasons is he's been able to stay healthy now is that he's worked with Mick Byrne to refine the workouts he's running to ensure he doesn't get too banged up. He said in past years, running indoor workouts has put a lot of stress on his body, so he mostly stayed off it this winter, doing a lot of hill work outside.
He only did one indoor workout this year and most of his speed work consisted of strides and a few 200's as part of his pre-meet work when he would travel to nicer tracks for races.
