How can I tell if my pee is yellow because I’m dehydrated or because of vitamins?
How can I tell if my pee is yellow because I’m dehydrated or because of vitamins?
Vitamin's often produce a neon yellow-ish color. Dehydration looks more like a beer color and usually has a stronger urine smell.
Taste it. If it tastes like OJ it’s due to vitamins. Otherwise it’s dehydration
Could be too much salt or overexertion. Either way urine no need to worry

Very close answer, but it won't taste like OJ. If it's vitamins then it will taste like vitamins. Otherwise it will taste like the floor of a New Jersey parking garage.

What does the floor of a New Jersey parking garage taste like?
Non-vitamin infused urine

Easy, just stop drinking liquids, or stop taking vitamins. Then you’ll know it’s the other.

There is a breakfast cereal sold in the UK called Sugar Puffs. And if you are dehydrated your urine smells uncannily like Sugar Puffs, so that's one suggestion.
However, if your Sugar Puffs smell like urine, you have bigger problems.
.
Vitamin B will make your pee yellow. Does it every time for me.

^--- That's your answer. B vitamins tend to have a specific smell, too. I can tell you, if you're taking a B-vitamin pill, you are almost certainly getting too much B and peeing it out (many of them have many multiples of your 'daily value' in them).
No, can’t say I have. But did you get your BOSTON Marathon Qualifier yet?

Your urine vil hav dat karakteritisch neon green yellow color as a result ov vitamin b 12 intake. Achtung gedanken, you haven’t been urinating the green stream in awhile, undo also you having problems with lack of energy, restlessness, mood and common colds, etc., probable que ist der B tolve mein freund, Claro Jawhol, pay it forward rama merci
If you know your typical body weight, and it hasn’t changed significantly, it’s probably the vitamins.
You could also have mono. When I had it my pee was yellow for a while even when well hydrated because your liver excretes something that colors your urine.

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind. The answer is blowin' in the wind.
Oh, never mind. That was then (Bob Dylan, the ancient 1960s). This is now:
ASK ANY KENYAN OR ETHIOPIAN DISTANCE RUNNER. They're experts on peeing.
Now on a serious note about pee color. Many moons ago, my doctor told me that I was a prime candidate for developing kidney stones, because my urine sample was so yellow. It indicated a lack of liquid intake. Yes, in those days, I barely drank liquids. I didn't heed the doc's warning.
Sure enough, I had a kidney stone attack within two years, and I learned the painful way to drink lots of water. When my pee is yellow, unless the color is caused by excessive vitamins (but accompanied by a telltale smell), I am reminded to intake more liquids. I sure don't want another kidney stone attack. NOT fun. And I had it relatively easy.
Just drink more water either way. It is highly unlikely that you will overhydrate yourself so just drink enough water that you know you aren't dehydrated. If your pee is still yellow than you'll know it'd from vitamins.
Change in body weight is a better indicator of dehydration.
