Additionally , Outside magazine has written an interesting piece on runner's generally not having health insurance. Non-Americans, please realize health insurance is REALLY expensive often times in the US. I looked yesterday and my wife's plan for our family (which her employer picks up) costs more than 20k per year.
Weldon didn't have it when he was competing and had a broken foot for more than a year as it went undiagnosed.

Rojo, are you telling us you had no idea health insurance is expensive?
Democrats like to blame insurance and pharmaceutical companies on why healthcare is so expensive in the US.
But the truth is: everyone in healthcare profits tremendously.
Why don’t we cut that physicians salary (roughly $300k) in half? Why does the nurse make 6 figures while her equivalent in Europe makes $30k a year?
Pro runners put themselves at risk for various injuries, why should I pay for it?

Rojo, what is the plural of “runner”? (Hint: it is not “runner’s”)
I met his GF at last years Millrose Games as she was seated right behind me. Very nice young lady.
Thanks for the update and videos. Hoping they are able to figure out why it happened and he is able to have a full recovery!

Do you have any idea how much it costs - in dollars and time - to become a physician? Do you have any idea how grueling the work can be? I absolutely think that health care economics in the US need to be carefully examined, but if physician salaries are where your solutions start, you’re really off course.
Just a fun little anecdote: my son is a physician. He makes about $150k/year, average for his specialty. He did 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency and a 1 year fellowship. Undergrad and med school loans total about $250k. During the 4 years of residency/fellowship, he earned $50k/year, working around 80 hours each week.

Why does he "only" make 150k? That seems really light to me for the work/responsibility that goes into being a doctor. Entry-level salary, super low cost of living area..? How much of that 150 goes into malpractice insurance?

Rojo is a trust funder. He has no idea how people without gobs of family money live. He is as out of touch as George Bush with the grocery store self-checkout scanner.

Nor are there any nurses making "6 figures". Typical/average hourly wage is $30/hr to clean up $hit and put up with entitled people like Surejan.

Entry level, midwestern state, relatively poorly compensated speciality. I believe the bulk of malpractice insurance is covered by his employer.
$150k is nothing to sneeze at, but it’s also a far cry from the stereotype of wealthy physicians. Most of his peers also have enormous debt, and those who went into more lucrative specialties are still in training - his best friend likes to joke he’ll start his real life when he’s 40.
My friend is a physician at a walk-in clinic. He earns only $140k.

Nearly everyone puts themselves at risk for various injuries in some form or other and if you have insurance from the same company they do you're paying for their treatment just as they pay for any treatment you get once you're beyond your deductible. The reason you should pay for them is because that's how insurance works.

If every physician started working for free today, healthcare costs would fall by about 8%. I don’t know how you can blame high healthcare costs on physician salaries. Physicians today make about the same money that they did decades ago when healthcare was relatively affordable. What has changed in that time is that a bunch of MBAs and administrators have started milking massive quantities of money out of the system without improving patient care at all.
So please tell me why the physicians and nurses rather than the MBAs should be the ones taking pay cuts.

The whole system is broken. Doctors earn too much money and that's why med schools can get away with charging ridiculously high tuition.
The NYTimes had an article the other day how great healthcare is in Cuba - the average doctor there only makes $8k a year. And they have higher life expectancy than we do. Obviously that's not the solution either.
I am sure our physicians are hard working but can we afford to continue to compensate them as highly as we do?
In regards to medication cost: allow re-imports. Problem solved. But that will never happen.
Let's cut everyone's salary in half and fund AOCs Green Deal and other great ideas?

You're too stupid to be for real. Obvious troll. 0/10
If/when healthcare in U.S. is more socialized profit will be reduced/eliminated from healthcare insurance. Profit will be reduced/eliminated for drug industry. Medical doctors will be employees. Who told you those on the left do not know there are doctors earning out there earning over one million a year? We know. We know Huey Kingfish Long wanted to run for U.S. President in 1936 to the left of limousine liberal F.D.R. Those on the left know Long wanted government healthcare for all. Those on the left know a medical doctor assassinated Huey Long, 1935. We know!
Great to hear an update on Kemoy. Sounds like he's on his way to recovery and that isn't always the case sadly when runners drop unexpectedly like that. It'll be a great day to see him again at another track meet, whether he is competing or not.

Quite wrong. Nurse salaries vary wildly based on geography. One of my family members is a nurse in SF and makes more than $150K per year.
