Lol Olympians are lifting four or five times that...20 reps at 205 indicates a max bench of maybe 350? If he can double that he starts to enter the conversation.
Exactly! How do people who care about an olympic sport underestimate olympic athletes?! Olympic weightlifters are way stronger than Ryan. He is soing a great job given how long he has been doing it for sure! That being said to be competitive given that he is about 180 lbs he would have to compete at 81 kg which requires a snatch of 240 lbs and a clean and jerk of 315 lbs, just to be a lower tier lifter on the national level. So a bench press wouldn't be a good way of measuring this, it'd be better to know his front squat and maybe deadlift to determine potential.

In order to get an idea we can compare lifts we know know from him so they can be compared with national level powerlifters to see if he even has the genetic potential to transition to Olympic Weightlifting.
To just qualify got Nationals at a bodyweight of 83 kg he would need to total about 1380 lbs between the Bench, Squat, and Deadlift. Given a reasonable and liberal estimate of 350 lbs on his bench, the 405 deadlift, and a very liberal 450 on his squat would still have him almost 200 lbs out of qualifying. Basically, his Deadlift and bench are pretty weak for competitive lifting.
