No, the best steakhouse in the US is The Prime @ the Bellagio hotel.
Been to Peter Luger's, Lonesome Dove in Fort Worth, as well as other run ins like Strip House, STK, BLT Prime, etc. The Prime takes it.
Wolfgang's in NY is underrated if you don't want to deal with Peter Luger's ridiculous reservation system.

Another worthless subjective thread.
Maybe wineturtle will weigh in. He has sophisticated tastes. I have a tongue like a shingle. i'm one of those guys who, after having won the lottery, would go to Applebee's.
What about...Texas Roadhouse??

Ajee's Roast Beef
We have the meats!!!
I'll have to try The Prime next time I'm in Vegas. I went to Carnevino last time, because it was about to close. It was good, but not great.
I may be like the other guy that said his palate isn't able to discern the difference at a certain point. There are at least three steakhouses in the Denver area that are all outstanding (to me), and I find that the reason I prefer one over the other is usually dependent on the friends I'm sharing the meal with and the mood I'm in.
The best steak I've ever had was a prime NY Strip. Usually, not my favorite cut. But we spent all day rock climbing. We were exhausted. Got back to camp and realized we had brought no utensils or cookware. We cooked them over an open fire, pulled them off with our pocket knives, let them rest a little bit, and then just held them in our hands and bit off chunks. I'm sure it wasn't the best sourced or cooked steak I've ever had, but the surrounding experience still makes it the best steak I've enjoyed. That was about 18 years ago, and I still remember it quite vividly.

Dude, that is like, soooo awesome. I like, have something in my eye, or something. Sniff, sniff.
Rock-climbing. Steaks over open fires. Eating whole steaks with your hands/no utensils. Just bro's, no 'ho's.
Legend.

The best Steakhouse is more than the best steak.
The steakhouse visit is more about the total dining experience, the sum of the parts, food, atmosphere and yes the subtle elitist feeling that comes with the size of the check. USDA prime meat with a unique proprietary aging can be had at many places--best hunk of meat is subjective and all the majors put out a great hunk of meat. In every area there are a number of great restaurants that are not labeled steakhouses that put out a great hunk of meat!!! Go find one if your just looking for a good steak those places are usually not as expensive..
I had an educated palate not a sophisticated one. Good v. poor quality ingredients to good v. poor technique that education is born from hands-on operation of restaurants. I ate in all the major players of the NYC Steakhouse experience starting in the ;ate '50s with an eyeopening steak at Mike Manuche's and most of the tail end of 45th Street Restaurant Row and places like Danny's, Pen&Pencil and Christ Cella .
If you are in NYC Smith and Wollensky would be my choice because it has a great 'other than steak' menu. Plus know who came up with the 'from a phonebook story ;-)

I’ve eaten at Prime and the other big name steak houses on the Strip and none of them is even the best in Vegas, much less the country. Best in LV is Vic & Anthony’s, in believe it or not, the Golden Nugget.
LtM thanks for the nice words.
Your house with great friends, a steak from Lobels or some other high end butcher, with USDA Prime access, add some long slow and low cooking finished in a freekin' blast furnace hot cast iron pan and you have found the best steakhouse in America .
If you have a great butcher talk to him about a USDA Choice rib-eye cap steak .
Been to most of them in NY and my all time favorite is the original Palm (or Palm Too- across the street). Best baked clams in the world.
