Felt like I was in good shape, but not great.
God I love these ugly shoes.
Also, inspired by that video of Kiprop in the rain, I pulled a lightweight tire for most of my easy runs.

I personally wouldn't race in them since there are better shoes out there for that, but I like them as a lightweight trainer. Light (6.8oz in my size 10.5), bouncy and decent cushioning for the weight. Agree that Skechers has a winner with this shoe. What distance did you PR in?

pffff. "lightweight tire for most" of your "easy runs"? Not impressed. I carry a solid 20 pound spare tire for ALL my runs

Not a fan of that shoe but you leave out relavent details. What was the distance? What was your time? How much of a PR was it?

1. How much over a minute?
2. Do you attribute it entirely to the shoes?
3. What was temp at race time?
13.1
Almost exactly a minute PR

Not many better shoes out there that make a size 14... would live to know about them if you have something else in mind

Right at a minute
Shoes and tire pulling. Mostly tire pulling. I can tell it has subtly changed my mechanics to make me move forward w my stride instead of just bouncing up and down.
Perfect, 40*F -ish

I understand the last two “x”s but the first “x” c’mon bro you can provide a little more detail here...
Congrats!
But I'm insisting again these shoes are nothing special, it's just EVA foam so it's all in your head.
At your shoe size, foam weight is a very big problem, I totally get and respect that.
Shoes with lighter foam probably help you a lot, every three ounces is 1% economy improvement and guess what, 1% of ~95 minutes is almost a minute savings.
Meanwhile I've turned them into a recovery shoe since I am stuck with them.
for the folks with big sizes usually (especially myself) carry a higher volume and wider foot. With those in mind ive found the NB1400V6. It may feel too firm for some but once your at 40 miles it seems to mold nicely and has a real nice fluid transition. At low 6oz for a size 9 its there with Hyperion but has a much more centered feel because of the last, width, and volume.
For long runs/progression the Zoom FLy flyknit seems to be really good. The heel is soft but seems to roll well at midfoot and then lever you forward with the carbon rocker. Initially there may be some concern with flyknit but tying them with even tension and running at least 40miles has an even fit as opposed to out of the box, less than 40 miles.
To offset the VF cost ive been on the search for zoom fly sp as theyre almost an ounce lighter than flymesh or flyknit versions...
Nice. Are they flexible? (I've awful achilles issues which make shoe flexibility my #1 priority and (happily) rule out any stiff carbon plates.)
The Razor 3 is too narrow in the mid foot for even average feet IMO. As fast as flexibility, they are fairly flexible. I don’t like the straight last for a speed shoe - would prefer curved. I use my pair for training. I race in ZF SP because these are the fastest shoes for me.
I def have my eye on the ZFFK. 2oz heavier, but still seems like a great lightweight trainer/long distance racer.

That means the first x is a 9.
I would have been more impressed if you'd PRd by a minute in the mile. Hard pass on the Skechers. King Ches got punked yesterday.

Ya, pouring rain, plyos, “running” in place back to back w elastic around their hips, and dragging that tire thru the wet field.
I had considered doing the tire before - the directional resistance just makes sense - but seeing “real runners” do it made up my mind to try it.
I def get some strange looks from folks in the neighborhood... but they are fat, so who cares? ;-)
