So I just watched the first video. In it, they start off by saying about 10 seconds in that when Tuohy won NXN as a sophomore it was "unheard of."
What?
Sarah Baxter won as a sophomore in 2011.
Plus 4 sophomores have won the girls race at Foot Locker.
I'm all for making cool videos but think they should at least be accurate.

Maybe a poor choice of words, but it is pretty rare for a Sophomore to win an individual national championship in any sport.
holy smoke Touhy gave some terrible answers. Sounds like Rupp.
Whoever her coach is.. come on man. you wont let this high schooler reveal ONE workout? Lighten up.
Hilarious that she's led to believe that her secret workouts are what separate her from the rest.
A monkey could train a talented athlete.
After these athletes graduate their coach vanishes into oblivion until the next talent hopefully comes along.
I found her a bit verbose, was this interview condensed for length and clarity?
She had a workout Wednesday from her freshman year I think . Like 6x1000 with 1:00 rest at much faster than 5k pace...seemed insane to me. If that’s indicitive of her training it’s no surprise she’s running fast. Take a super talent who is built like a tank who can hold up to a lot of hard training and she’ll run fast.

I'm guessing that the reason that she and her coach don't talk more is because of all the ridiculous criticism and venom that gets directed toward them. It isn't that they think they have secrets to success- it's because no matter what details get revealed, people on this site will start saying it's too easy, it's too hard, too soon, too late, she should be not racing at all until she's 21, she should be racing more, she should be trying to stay under the radar and let other kids win nationals, etc.
Just let them live. They are doing really well. If you like it, watch. If you don't, don't watch and go train yourselves and your own athletes the way you want to train them.
A prodigy in interviewing as well as in running.
She is actually a very nice and smart girl, but her coach doesn't allow her to share ANY information related to mileage, workouts and so on.
Since the questions focused primarily on that, the interview ended up being quite bad.
Instead of asking questions that she is not allowed to answer, focus should have been on asking questions where she can talk freely and provide a real answer.
Pot or kettle? If you like the posts, read them. If not, don’t read them. See how that works? You seem to be fine with telling all of us what we can and can’t write.

good point! I have to agree. Of course you can write it- I shouldn't let it bother me.
But I fall for the bait every time- because I sympathize with the coach and athlete- anybody could sympathize with them, but I have a daughter around the same age and I also have coached, and I grew up in the same area- so I feel like I should defend them. But you are right- I should follow the advice that I would give the athlete and coach (not that they need my advice!)- which is, "don't read the message boards".
Sincerely- thank you for pointing that out!
And good luck with your criticisms or spectating or support or whatever you choose to do.
Workout was 5x1k at 3:20 in Dec 2016, roughly her 5k pace or slightly slower at the moment, with 2 minutes rest. Even her last rep looked very controlled, and she beat the times by 2-3 sec each.
The coach did one thing well, which was holding her back - even in this workout, he told her "we do not, NOT run faster at the end of it!", indicating that Tuohy has a tendency to kill herself on the last rep and needs to be held back if the workout is not designed to be a "go to the well" workout.

Not girls' sports.

I mean it’s a bit more complicated than that. Social media is basically unavoidable now. No matter how hard her coach or herself try to shield her from nasty comments, she will still be able to see them. The less she reveals about her mileage and/or workouts, the less validity comments like “you will burn out” or “she will be another Mary Cain” have. Of course these comments can have an affect regardless, but I’m sure the coach is thinking that if the commenters have no evidence to back their opinions, no one will take them seriously, which seems to have worked. She has a lot less criticism than many other high school phenoms who willingly send their 80mpw, no recovery day, all out workout training plans.
You made me LOL for realz.

I agree. Hilarious!
She is as bad as Rupp. I am not exaggerating when I say I scoured videos to find one of of Rupp talking. I literally thought he was mute until sometime last year. Dull and uninteresting. At least Kevin Durant got all testy with the reporters last night. Wouldn't answer the questions. Provided no information. But somewhat entertaining anyway when he got all torqued off. This kid comes across as struggling to put a complete sentence together!
