if 10:2 and 1:03 was such an easy jog for them they would be 2:04 - 2:05 marathoners.

Nice humblebrag, Andrew. Not hating, but your winning the masters race in 1:17 isn't relevant to the overall story.
My first thought. Brag or don't brag, but don't try to claim the post is about anything else.
Seems like a great way to get a workout supported with traffic control. It's not like running is popular enough that elites would ever get mobbed by fans, but an easy way to get exposure for yourself and your sponsors.

Check Chicago 2018 results.
I looked at those results and something funny was going on with Tony Fox.

Yes.. they were at about 1.6 miles ahead of me if not more(I was 1 minute slower than them per mile at that point). They were flying down the course way ahead of 3rd and 4th place runners who are pretty fast subelite runners themselves (3rd place won Baltimore one year and got 2nd at Marine Corps with a 2:23 PR I think and 4th was a prior OTQ marathoner with a 2:17 PR). The weather was not conducive for fast times at the race with headwinds and rain.
Being said OTQ I thought I'd give my take. I was doing the race as more of a tempo so I wasn't going to be anywhere near those two although I could not touch those times fully backed off and peaking for the race. I was very suprised to see two guys so fast since there was no prize money, there is a course record bonus which the winner did get for breaking Jimmy Grabow's 1:03 and change time a few years back. I doubt they got an appearance fee knowing the race makeup.
This race doesn't really focus on an elite field other than comping guys but I have a hard time calling a race with 10,000 plus participants a local race.
The course is a very fast one. Only a few turns and mostly flat. The negative yesterday was the weather. There was a wind coming off the ocean that kind of sucked. With about 5 miles left for me it started raining and at that point, with the wind and rain, it got pretty cold and miserable. At that point, they may have only had a 5K to go. They were definitely booking and I don't think they got to take tangents everywhere since we ran up on the slower marathoners starting around mile 5. Those two were definately booking. I could see their times yesterday being worth a 62 low on a course like Houston in good weather.

Probably the fastest half marathon in Washington history.
Since everyone seems to be into niche records....
@Primo Numero Uno
Congratulations on a nice tempo run. Congratulations on getting another OTQ for 2020 at last year’s CIM by the way. Those two Japanese pros are just a different level.
I agree that Surf City is large enough to be more than a local half marathon. Probably a regional level race at least.
Calling them studs is racist. I'm telling the brojos
