Richard Kimball, world jr XC champ.
Kimball also ran 4:02/8:46 for the mile and 2-mile in 1974 which was the fastest one day double until German Fernandez in 2008. He went to Oregon State, got sick with mono, and transferred to San Jose State. The only result for for him I could find was a 3:47 1500 in 1977.
Kimball's double at CIF was 4:06/8:46. His 4:02 was at NCS the week before where he also won the 2 mile in 9:13.
Of historical note, Kimball had only 70 minutes between events and ran the 2 mile first. In his astonishing double, Fernandez had 2 hours to recover for the 3200 after running the 1600 first.

It's no wonder he was completely fried by the end of his senior year.
